Cat fur color patterns

Fur color patterns are defined colors for a type of cat. These sometimes span different breeds (see our Cat Breed page) and there are usually new patterns emerging in most breeds. It refers to the coat – its color, pattern, and length.

An example is the calico cat, who has white, black, and orange fur in different swirls and patches in the fur. Another example is a tortoiseshell. This fur design could be on a mixed breed cat or it could be a tortoiseshell Persian or British Shorthair. One of the most common coat patterns is a tabby. They have stripes, such as a gray striped cat or orange striped cat.
